On every construction site, regardless of the industry, many specialized positions can be distinguished. Their names often sound similar, but the professions themselves differ significantly in terms of expectations towards candidates and the scope of responsibilities. Examples of such positions are fitter and electrician. Employees in both professions are a key part of the solar farm construction team. Thanks to them, it is possible to carry out work on the construction site efficiently. However, you should know that these positions differ from each other. In this article, you will learn how the work of an installer differs from a photovoltaic electrician on the example of working in our company. Have a nice read!

All about the position of a fitter

The main duties of the fitter include the installation of foundations, supporting structures, photovoltaic panels and wiring of the electrical installation. In short, a photovoltaic panel fitter is primarily responsible for connecting the most important structural elements on the construction site together.

What do we expect from a fitter?

We expect a minimum of professional education from candidates for the position of fitter. The fitter should also be ready and open to work abroad. Our company most often implements projects in Germany, but also in Ireland, Great Britain and the Netherlands. We also require
availability for trips for a period of one to four months, and, of course, commitment to their work and responsibilities.

Fitter

What experience should a fitter have?

Any experience related to working with photovoltaics is welcome in our company, especially that gained in a similar position. In addition, we value people who have: – health and safety training certificate: VCA (required in the Netherlands) or SCC, – excavator and/or loader license (operator), – driving license cat.

All about the position of an electrician

The main tasks of an electrician include the installation, testing and commissioning of power systems, as well as diagnosing and removing failures. The electrician is therefore responsible for assembly, installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems on the construction site.

What do we expect from an electrician?

An employee in the position of an electrician is required to have at least vocational education (related to electricity) and SEP qualifications up to 1 kV. As in the case of a fitter, an electrician should be ready to work abroad and available. Electrician

What experience should an electrician have?

What is the difference between the work of an installer and a photovoltaic electrician?

The work of a fitter is more related to the installation of load-bearing structures, and the work of an electrician is more related to the installation of electrical equipment. Electrical fitters are faced with more complex tasks related to the installation, connection and testing of photovoltaic panels, wires and other electrical system components. In addition, electricians must be more familiar with the issues related to safe work with electricity. The electrician must know which wires and cables are suitable for different applications and what the standards are for electrical connections. That is why we require our electricians to have an electrician-related education or valid certificates/licenses. The work of an installer, on the other hand, focuses more on the installation of load-bearing structures, the installation of photovoltaic panels on these structures and the implementation of related tasks. The work of a fitter therefore requires more practical and manual skills, such as reading technical drawings or the ability to work with tools and mechanical elements. In general, the work of a fitter and an electrician require different skills and knowledge. However, this does not change the fact that employees in both positions are equally important for the efficient construction of a photovoltaic farm. Both positions carry out the key elements of the installation process. Fitter and Electrician

What do the work of a fitter and an electrician have in common?

There are also some similarities in the work of a fitter and an electrician. In both positions, we require: – the ability to work in a team, – accuracy and precision in performing tasks, – compliance with appropriate safety and environmental norms and standards during work, – the use of hand and electric tools and – performing tasks at heights (e.g. when installing photovoltaic panels on supporting structures), – knowledge of technical drawings and electrical diagrams, – the ability to solve problems and failures in during work.
